In today's generation, families seem to be growing smaller and smaller. Back in the day during our parents or grandparent's generation, families used to be huge. In fact even in the beginning of the 21st century, there used to be joint families living in the same house. I remember as a kid, visiting my friend's house and seeing all his family members live in the same house on different floors. The same existed even in the house where I stayed.
However over the last couple of years it seems people have really started to branch out. There doesn't seem to be the concept of joint families anymore. Everyone loves to live on their own. Now as much as a lot of people would like it, as it provides space and personal boundaries which is something that a lot of people need today, it also provides the problems the social isolation and lack of community building.
Today even though the digital era is ever growing, it seems like on the contrary people are becoming more and more isolated. After the Covid pandemic hit, the isolation grew more than ever among people and this has led to a lot of loneliness among people. It's interesting to see taht even after the pandemic is over the feelings of isolation are still not gone and peopel still tend to feel that way. This shows hoe disconnected we are from people and especially from our families.
But it doesn't mean that families are found only at home. Families are just people you spend the most time with. You are not afriad to tell them things about yourself, you are not afraid to be vulnerable. And most importantly they will always be there for you. That's what makes up a family. And today anybody can be family. It could be friends, colleagues, partners. Anyone you share a close bond with.
Therefore it is important that even if we stay away from our families, we can't ignore them forever. No matter how they are, no matter where they are, they are ours. We will always go back to them, no matter where we are. Because they are our own and they are what matters to each one of us the most.
