This was stated by New York Mayor Eric Adams, according to the BBC.

According to Adams, Tamura had a note with him accusing the NFL of causing a brain injury that he said led to chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

The BBC and NBC News note that Tamura was indeed a football player in high school in California, but did not play in the NFL.

The attack took place in the lobby of a skyscraper, where he opened fire, then took an elevator to the 33rd floor and continued shooting.

During the investigation, it became known that he had mistakenly entered the office of Rudin Management instead of reaching the NFL, which was located in another part of the building.

According to investigators, Tamura likely travelled across the United States, from Las Vegas to New York, to carry out the attack.

On the evening of 28 July local time, Shane Tamura broke into a 44-storey skyscraper on Park Avenue with an M4 rifle. He first opened fire on a police officer, then shot a woman who was trying to escape, and started shooting throughout the lobby.

The attacker then took an elevator and shot a security guard. He then went up one more floor, where he killed a woman before shooting himself in the chest. New York Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that many people were injured in the shooting.

The deceased police officer was 36-year-old Didarul Islam, who worked as a security guard in the building. Another victim was Wesley Lepatner, an employee of the financial company Blackstone, as well as two civilian men, CNN reported.
